Service Dog Who Helped Student Through College Receives Heartwarming Graduation Surprise
Texas Tech University graduate Makaela Muse says her service dog Sadie deserved to celebrate graduation just as much as she did after helping her through years of medical challenges and late-night study sessions.
Originally meant to be a family pet, Sadie’s role changed after Muse suddenly passed out during class while attending college. She was later diagnosed with two rare health conditions, leading Sadie to become a trained service dog.
According to Muse, Sadie now helps alert her when dangerous changes happen in her body.
“Basically, between the two of them, my hormones are always going up and down, and that's primarily her job, is to help me manage that,” Muse explained.
Muse said Sadie has been beside her through every difficult moment during her college journey.
“She’s seen the good, the bad, and the ugly,” she shared.
The emotional graduation moment recently went viral after a faculty member surprised Sadie on stage with a bone wrapped like a diploma while Muse received her degree.
For Muse, the recognition meant everything because Sadie attended nearly every class, lab, and study session alongside her.
“People don't understand that they are literally our lifelines,” Muse said. “She went to just about every class and lab and every late-night study session.”
Now preparing for veterinary school, Muse says she and Sadie remain inseparable.
“There is no Makaela without Sadie, we're a packaged deal at this point,” she said.
