Lowe’s Welcomes Air Force Veteran and His Service Dog in Heartwarming Story

When Air Force veteran Clay Luthy joined the Lowe’s team in Abilene, Texas, he did not arrive alone — his loyal service dog Charlotte became part of the workplace family too. After leaving the U.S. Air Force in 2016, Clay faced challenges finding an employer willing to accommodate his service dog, but everything changed when he applied at Lowe’s.

Encouraged by his wife to try the local store where he already spent time shopping, Clay went through the interview process and earned the position based on his skills and experience. Lowe’s later shared that they hired the right person for the job and were proud to welcome Charlotte as part of the team.

Charlotte, a yellow Labrador Retriever, was never originally trained to become a service dog. According to Clay, she naturally began recognizing signs of his medical needs and providing support before he fully understood what she was doing. Over time, she became an important part of his daily life and his trusted companion at work.

At Lowe’s, Charlotte even received her own custom red vest, making her an instantly recognizable member of the store team. A photo of Clay and Charlotte working together quickly went viral online, touching thousands of people and highlighting the powerful bond between veterans and service animals.

Clay hoped their story would inspire more veterans to learn about the ways service dogs can provide independence, confidence, and companionship. Their journey is a reminder that support can come in many forms — and sometimes the most dedicated coworker has four paws. 🐕❤️
