From Abandoned Puppies to Colorado: Ellie and Jett Finally Get Their Second Chance
Ellie and Jett were only young shepherd-mix puppies when they were abandoned in Grandview, Texas. Fortunately, a compassionate 70-year-old woman took them in and tried to give the frightened siblings a safe place to grow.
As the playful puppies became bigger and stronger, however, their energy became difficult for their elderly rescuer to manage. They accidentally knocked her over several times, raising concerns that she could eventually suffer a serious injury. When she contacted local law enforcement for help, she was reportedly told to shoot the dogs.
Thankfully, she refused to let that become their fate.
Instead, Drowzy Dawg Rescue stepped forward. A foster family provided Ellie and Jett with a safe temporary home while they began receiving the veterinary care they needed. The following day, volunteers transported the siblings to Bosque Animal Rescue Kennels (BARK), where they continued their recovery and preparation for a new chapter.
Then came their ride to hope.
Ellie and Jett became two of the 22 dogs included in iHeartDogs' August Rescue Road Trip to Colorado. The journey gave the siblings an opportunity to leave behind the uncertainty they had known in Texas and travel toward partner shelters and foster families ready to welcome them.
After everything they had experienced, their story finally reached the happy ending rescuers had been working toward.
Ellie and Jett arrived safely in Colorado. Jett has since been adopted into a loving home, while Ellie is reportedly well on her way to becoming a foster fail—meaning her foster family may decide they simply cannot imagine life without her.
Their journey is a powerful reminder of what can happen when people choose compassion instead of giving up. From abandoned puppies facing an uncertain future to two dogs surrounded by people determined to help them, Ellie and Jett were given the opportunity they deserved.
Their story also highlights the incredible role played by shelters, foster families, transport volunteers, and rescue supporters. Every person who helped along the way contributed to giving these siblings a chance at a safer and happier life.
