33 Cavalier King Charles Spaniels Rescued From Abandoned U-Haul in California
What began as a routine trespassing call in Murrieta, California, quickly turned into a heartbreaking animal rescue case that shocked both authorities and animal lovers alike.
Police officers responding to a report of a U-Haul truck parked on private property initially believed there were only two dogs inside the vehicle. However, after hearing additional barking coming from the cargo area, they opened the back of the truck and made a disturbing discovery: 21 Cavalier King Charles Spaniels confined inside the enclosed space.
According to investigators, the dogs had been left in the truck's cargo compartment without proper ventilation or air conditioning. Several of the animals were pregnant, many had severely matted coats, and authorities said the dogs had been left for hours with limited access to food and water. The conditions raised immediate concerns for their health and safety, especially given California's warm temperatures.
As officers and animal control personnel worked to assess the situation, the case took an even more surprising turn. The suspect reportedly arrived at the scene in a separate SUV carrying 12 additional Cavalier King Charles Spaniels. The discovery brought the total number of dogs involved in the case to 33.
